2015 "Book A Cruise" Program and Event
"Book A Cruise" is a summer reading program. This year, it was again sponsored by the
Chester C. Corbin Public Library in Webster with assistance from the Webster Police
Department and the Webster Lake Association. Young people who complete the program are eligible to
attend the "Book A Cruise" event at Memorial Beach in Webster.
The event was held on
August 5, 2015. Participants can take a cruise around the lake and also have lunch at the beach.
The Webster Police Department has been involved from the start of the program and originally
provided the cruises in their police boats, but the
program grew so large that they eventually recruited help from the Webster Lake Association.
The Webster Police Department still helps organize and run the event, but
Webster Lake Association members volunteer their time and pontoon boats to
provide rides around the lake for participants, families and others. This year, the large number of
available WLA boats made longer rides possible, around all three ponds.
AJ Alkire from Point Breeze Restaurant provided supplies and
did all the cooking for 250 participants.
Ray Travis again served as the
WLA coordinator for the boats. The WLA is pleased to help
these other organizations and to support this excellent program.
